TOGETHER IN THE WORD

Read Genesis 37:1–4 aloud together.

KEY QUESTION: How does God redeem broken stories?

QUESTIONS

  • How familiar are you with the book of Genesis in general and the story of Jacob in particular? What questions do you have going into this series?
  • What parts of Jacob’s family life can you relate to? Which parts seem totally foreign to you?
  • On a scale of 1-to-10, how broken does your past seem to you? How much of that do you feel you still carry into your present?
  • What are some ways you have seen God at work in your life? What questions do you have about how God works?
  • Over the past month, what temptations to anger have you faced? Stu listed some signs of hatred (see slide below). Which of these do you struggle with most?

Slide 23

TOGETHER IN PRAYER & ACTION

  • Pray for one another, thanking God for specific ways that He has helped redeem our brokenness and asking for help in the areas that are still painful.
  • Choose one item of concern to bring before God daily, casting your burdens on Jesus and trusting in His grace and mercy.
