TOGETHER IN LIFE

Stu shared a story about a funny dream he had about learning how to hunt. What is one hobby you’d love to learn or to pick up?

TOGETHER IN THE WORD

Read Ephesians 4:25-29 aloud together.

QUESTIONS

  • If you had to summarize this passage in just a few sentences, what would you say?
  • Stu noted that many of the instructions related to putting off our old selves and putting on our new selves are relational in nature. Why do you think this is?
  • Read verse 25. In what ways do you see deception in your life?
  • What is a drastic step you can take to pursue holiness in place of deception?
  • Read verses 26-27. In what ways do you see anger in your life?
  • Who around you is your anger harming?
  • Read verse 28. What does stealing sometimes look like in our lives?
  • What have you worked for that you could open-handedly surrender to God for the good of others?
  • Read verse 29. Are there times when your speech is corrupting rather than building the listener up and giving grace to those who hear?
  • What step can you take this week to use words that build others up and give grace to those who hear?
  • In the beginning of the sermon, Stu noted that we can’t put off the old self and put on the new self without the help and power of the Holy Spirit. Read Romans 8:13. Are you aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence and power in your own daily life?

TOGETHER IN PRAYER & ACTION

  1. Evaluate the four categories of lying (v. 25), anger (v. 26), theft (v. 28), and corrupt speech (v. 29) in your life. Ask someone close to you to speak to you honestly about how these show up in your life.
  2. Consider drastic measures. In the power of the Holy Spirit, what steps can you take to put on the new self in each of these categories?
