THIS WEEK’S KEY PASSAGE: Ephesians 6:4

REMINDERS

FAMILY CONNECT – March 1

Young families (with or without kids) are invited to join us following the first service for about 30 minutes in the Student Center to catch up with families you know, and connect with families you haven’t yet met! This is a great space for kids to run around, have fun and enjoy a light snack. No need to register!

Although this is designed for young families, If you are in a different stage of life, for example, a grandparent, we would love for you to come too! What a great gift for the different generations to do life together!

I RAISE YOU – March 6

Most of us feel the joy of parenting and simultaneously feel like we are in survival mode. This event is designed to help us learn how to thrive when all we think we can do is survive. The event and childcare for Birth-Grade 4 begin at 6pm. Hors d’oeuvres will be served for adults, with light snacks for the kids.

Easter Outreach

Experience Easter this year by being a part of Magnify’s annual Easter Outreach. Opportunities are available for all ages, onstage and off, as well as leading up to the production and during the production! We have a place for you.

Rehearsals begin soon, so register today so you can be “in the know” and receive all team communications.

You can keep up with all our current news and events through our online bulletin.

See the events page on the website for more updates.

TOGETHER IN LIFE

Share some highs, lows, and buffalos with each other.

“Highs” = good moments through the week, especially noticing God’s involvement – be specific!

“Lows” = challenging moments from the last week where you struggled.

“Buffalos” = out of the ordinary moments that were noteworthy or unexpected.

TOGETHER IN THE WORD

Read Ephesians 6:1-4 aloud together as a group.

KEY QUESTION: How does the Gospel change the way you parent?

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

“Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.”  Colossians 3:21

Provoke:  to call forth; to stir up purposely

QUESTIONS

Don’t Provoke

  • Can you think of a time you were exasperated or provoked to anger? What could be some possible consequences if this was a regular occurrence in someone’s life?

Do Discipline

Hebrews 12:6,11

  • “Bring them up” has the connotation of nurturing and nourishing. In our culture, discipline is often thought of as a negative.  How can godly discipline be a positive experience?
  • Noah mentioned the Proverbs Pattern: Warn, instruct, reproof, correct.  Consider the Paul Tripp quote below:

“Fight your authority battles early.  Fight them when the issue is small…Don’t tell yourself that those little moments of resistance to your authority (what to eat, what to wear, when to go to bed, what to watch, doing chores, etc.) are unimportant because the issue at hand is not that important.”

Give some examples from your experience of these concepts.

Do Teach

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

2 Timothy 3:16-17

  • What is the instruction of the Lord?
  • The Law is a mirror, not a savior. It shows us our need for Jesus. How is training our children to be obedient and good not enough?
  • What tools have you used and recommend to instruct our children?

TOGETHER IN ACTION & PRAYER

  • How can we, together, get better at parenting/grandparenting?
  • Share areas you see one another doing well in parenting/grandparenting – encourage each other!
  • If you are struggling in an area of parenting/grandparenting, share with the group and consider ways you can ask for support in this area.
