SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE
THIS WEEK’S KEY PASSAGE: Ephesians 6:1-4
REMINDERS
Young families (with or without kids) are invited to join us following the first service for about 30 minutes in the Student Center to catch up with families you know, and connect with families you haven’t yet met! This is a great space for kids to run around, have fun and enjoy a light snack. No need to register!
Although this is designed for young families, If you are in a different stage of life, for example, a grandparent, we would love for you to come too! What a great gift for the different generations to do life together!
Most of us feel the joy of parenting and simultaneously feel like we are in survival mode. This event is designed to help us learn how to thrive when all we think we can do is survive. The event and childcare for Birth-Grade 4 begin at 6pm. Hors d’oeuvres will be served for adults, with light snacks for the kids.
Experience Easter this year by being a part of Magnify’s annual Easter Outreach. Opportunities are available for all ages, onstage and off, as well as leading up to the production and during the production! We have a place for you.
Rehearsals begin soon, so register today so you can be “in the know” and receive all team communications.
You can keep up with all our current news and events through our online bulletin.
See the events page on the website for more updates.
TOGETHER IN LIFE
Many of us have pictures of our childhood that encapsulate certain iconic moments.
How closely do pictures of you, your family, and your loved ones represent the reality of your lives?
Do you have any stories of particular pictures that demonstrate a significant moment in your family life?
TOGETHER IN THE WORD
Read Ephesians 6:1-4 aloud together as a group.
KEY QUESTION: How will the depth of our communion with Christ shape our children?
QUESTIONS
Do you find it unusual or surprising that the Bible directly addresses children in Ephesians 6:1 and Psalm 34:11?
Do you ever feel that your children, your family, or your loved ones make it impossible to reach your goals?
Refer to Ephesians 5:21. How does our submitting to one another affect the ability of our children to obey and honor their parents?
What is the burden of God for His people right before they enter the Promised Land?
How do we teach our children to transfer dependence from their parents to Christ?
Consider the quote, “Obedience is relational before it’s behavioral.” What does that mean to you? Have you seen evidence of this in your life?
Ray quoted a book that stated, “When your sin abounds, His grace super-abounds.” Is that compatible with Romans 6:1-2? Why or why not?
Rather than the questions, “How do I raise better kids?” or, “How do I support the Church?” answer instead, “Who am I becoming in the process?”
When you think of Christ, right now, what is He thinking of you?
TOGETHER IN ACTION
- How can we, together, get better at apologizing?
TOGETHER IN PRAYER
First, meditate on the surprising tenderness of Jesus.
Then, prayerfully ask this question: What am I becoming and what am I passing on?
