TOGETHER IN LIFE

Take some time to reflect on the Christmas and New Year season, sharing highs and lows with one another.

TOGETHER IN THE WORD

Read Ephesians 5:15-21 aloud together.

KEY QUESTION: What do you need to remove from your life in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit?

QUESTIONS

  • Paul urges believers to make the best use of their time, or redeem their time. Have you ever taken an honest inventory of how you spend your time? If so, was there anything that surprised you?
  • In the book Scrolling Ourselves to Death, Samuel James writes, “The time we spend scrolling and wandering down algorithmic rabbit trails is often time taken directly away from the nobler, if harder, tasks God has given us to do.” Have you ever considered time spent on distractions as time stolen from the good works God created you to do or from the people He has put around you?
  • Is there anything that you turn to in your life when you are anxious, bored, scared, or lonely (substances, social media, streaming media, or online shopping)?
  • In what ways could you be using these as a substitute for being at rest in God?

TOGETHER IN PRAYER & ACTION

  • Ask God to search you and show you if there is anything in your life that you need to remove or reduce in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Ask someone who is close with you to answer the same question.
  • Make a plan to remove or reduce whatever it is that is standing in your way of being at rest in Christ.
