TOGETHER IN LIFE
**On Sunday, Tate talked about how he experienced God uproot some lies he had been believing about Worship when he was in Middle School. Can you give an example of something you thought to be true for years only to find out you were wrong?
TOGETHER IN THE WORD
21My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
QUESTION: Take a few moments as a group to read through all of Psalm 145. What elements of God’s greatness stick out to you as you read?
QUESTION: The Psalmist begs the question, “How can we do anything else but worship the Lord?!” What are some of the things that often hinder your authentic worship of the Lord
THE PSALMIST DESCRIBES A PERSONAL RESOLVE TO WORSHIP
1. External/Verbal Worship
QUESTION: “God designed the heart and the mouth to be directly connected.” If you were being honest, what do the things you talk about reveal about what you worship?
2. Internal/Silent Worship
QUESTION: There are certainly times for internal and silent worship, but the Psalmist indicates that this type of worship is, at best, incomplete. What thoughts do you have about this truth?
QUESTION: When it comes to worship, which way do you tend to be? More external or more internal? What would it take for you to become a more complete worshipper?
QUESTION: Have you ever met someone that is walking outward expression of the work God has done in their hearts? What would it take for you to be that type of person?
HOW DO WE BECOME GREAT WORSHIPPERS?
GREAT WORSHIPPERS OF THE LORD WORSHIP FROM GRACE, NOT FOR GRACE
QUESTION: Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 together. How does remembering where we came from and how God intervened change the posture of our worship?
“We must never tire of god’s grace, but we must never work for it either!”
QUESTION: Tate gave three examples of “works based worship.” Anxious worship, dramatized worship, and reluctant worship. How have you experienced these types of “works based worship?” Which one of the three do you struggle with the most? How can we grow out of this type of worship?
GREAT WORSHIPPERS OF THE LORD WORSHIP FROM GRACE AND FOR GOD’S GLORY.
QUESTION: What are some ways you can saturate your life this week with more of Christ?
QUESTION: Worship is both a natural response and a disciplined practice. How can we make regular worship part of our daily routine? What can we do to allow for more spontaneous times of worship during the week?
QUESTION: Worship is to be personal and public. How might we need to shift our priorities to place more value and importance on Sunday morning corporate worship?
QUESTION: Our worship is also to be verbal. What comes out of your mouth with greater frequency: the praises of God? Or the cares and concerns of this world?
TOGETHER IN ACTION
QUESTION: This week, how can you challenge yourself to speak the praise of the Lord with more frequency and fervor and to meditate more on his greatness and glory?
TOGETHER IN WORSHIP
Read the Lord’s prayer together in Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus tells his disciples to start their prayer with adoration. Spend time together praying specifically praising the Lord for his greatness and for his goodness. Let this time of adoration inform the rest of your prayer time.
