Holy Week Experience (Sunday, April 13th, 5:30–7pm)
Come and experience the events of Holy Week, the week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, at this event designed by Kid and Student ministries. Ponder the extent of His love for you while you walk through five self-guided stations at your own pace. The stations include clearing the temple, the anointing at Bethany, the garden, the last supper, and Good Friday. A meal will be provided at the beginning of the evening.

Easter Drama – Flames of Hope (April 17–19)
In our world where wars, disasters, political struggles, and desperate people surround us, the amazing Easter story comes to life on stage before us. Experience the passion of Jesus and the events that follow. Hunted by both religious leaders and irate Romans wanting to silence them, believers face fierce persecution, imprisonment, disasters, and even martyrdom under emperor Nero. What hope do they have? What hope does our world have? Be encouraged with the good news embedded in this immersive drama with an incredible cast, orchestra, live animals, authentic sets and costumes, creative choreography, and special effects.

TOGETHER IN LIFE

Today we began a 5-week miniseries that will complete on Easter Sunday.

What preparations or traditions do you observe in the weeks leading to that day?

TOGETHER IN THE WORD

THIS WEEK’S KEY PASSAGE: Luke 19:28-44

Note: If you are meeting as a group, we encourage you to read the text together out loud.

KEY QUESTION:

  • Do you think that God invades the realm of your life?

GOING DEEPER:

Western culture emphasizes “disenchantment,” doubting or denying anything supernatural. How does that affect our view of God and His activity in our lives?

Science (“and its often destructive child, technology”) can become an object of worship or an idol to those who reject all but the material world. How could that happen?

Slides from the sermon can be found here: https://sermons.church/archived?church=magnifychurch&sermonid=72273

Don spoke of a two-story world; one story is material, and the other is the “enchanted, magic, transcendent world”. Does your own experience feel like a one-story world, or a two-story world?

As prophesied in Zechariah 9:9, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding on a donkey. How could this situation be described as a political powder keg? (Luke 19:35-40)

Why did Jesus weep as He drew near to Jerusalem? (Luke 19:41-44)

Don said that the time of God’s visitation in your life is right now. What does that mean?

Don referred to the story of Jesus cleansing the temple (John 2:13-17; also see Matthew 21:12-13; Mark 11:15-17; Luke 19:45-46). He said Jesus looked like “a fanatic, a madman, somebody who snapped.” How would you describe Jesus at that time?

Have you ever felt “God is entrusting us with a lot of suffering”? How do we reconcile pain and loss with the presence and goodness of God?

TOGETHER IN ACTION

Nine deaths have occurred in our church body in the last three weeks. I Thessalonians 5:11 encourages us to comfort and edify one another.  Consider compassionately moving toward those who are suffering, remembering that our two-story world can be both deeply sorrowful and gloriously joyful.

TOGETHER IN PRAYER

Three families dedicated their children to the Lord today.

Praise God as you pray for their families who have chosen these passages of Scripture:

I Samuel 1:27-28 /// Proverbs 3:5-6 /// Psalm 24:4-5
