TOGETHER IN LIFE

Matt shared on Sunday that one of his childhood heroes was superman, did you have a hero as a child, either real or imagined? Do you have a hero now?

TOGETHER IN THE WORD

THIS WEEK’S KEY PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 10:23-33

Note: We encourage you to read the entire text together as a group out loud.

  • My neighbor is more important than my freedom.
  • The Gospel is more important than my rights
  • No idolatry

QUESTION: Have you seen recent growth in how you value your neighbor over your freedom? If not, what do you think would help you to grow in this area?

QUESTION: Likewise, have you seen recent growth in how you live out the Gospel more than you fight for your own individual rights? If not, what do you think would help you to grow in this area?

QUESTION: Have you made any forward movement in identifying and crucifying idols in your life?

1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

What does the Glory of God mean?

  • His fame, excellence, perfection, mercy, love, splendor, etc.
  • Most importantly, the Glory of God is manifest in God’s people and how we relate to one another. How we love, forgive and restore one another.
  • Jesus manifest the Glory of God when He was at His absolute weakest, on the cross, moments away from death – sacrificing His life for ours. We are to do the same.

QUESTION: Was Matt’s definition of the Glory of God new to you?

QUESTION: When you’re going about your everyday life, how often do you think about bringing glory to God?

QUESTION: Does it feel more difficult to you to focus on bringing glory to God in the mundane tasks of life verses the big events, or visa versa? Why or why not?

QUESTION: Matt mentioned that how we love, forgive and restore one another in our relationships is of utmost importance. Of those three, which one comes easiest and which one is more challenging? Why do you think that is?

REGIONALLY

  • Find the organizations we partner with here.

GLOBALLY

  • Find our global partners here.

QUESTION: Did you learn anything new about our Christ centered partnerships either locally, regionally or globally? What was most surprising, encouraging or exciting to you?

1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

Why doesn’t Paul say, be imitators of Christ? Paul knows that we all need someone that we can follow. We need ongoing relationships with people who even though they are not perfect, remind us of Jesus. We need to find someone who looks like Jesus, and do what they do.

Hebrews 6:11-12, “And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

QUESTION: Who has mentored you in the faith in the past? Do you have someone mentoring you now? Are you mentoring anyone in their relationship with Christ?

 OUR VALUES

  • Worship
  • Learn
  • Give
  • Relate
  • Serve
  • Reach

QUESTION: How would you describe the quality of your worship?

QUESTION: What are you learning about God, yourself and the Christian life?

QUESTION: What does your giving say about where your heart is? Are you reluctant to give or are you a cheerful giver? Are you faithful in your giving? What might be your next step in giving?

QUESTION: What is the depth of your relating? Do you have anyone that fully knows you – your sin patterns, where you struggle, where you thrive, where you’re tempted to hide?

QUESTION: What is your attitude in serving? Where are you serving right now? Are you happy to do it, or is it a chore?

QUESTION: Are you eager to share the gospel?

QUESTION: Who do I imitate in my life? Is it shaping me to be like Jesus?

TOGETHER IN PRAYER

1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

Father, we are powerless to do any of this without you. We cannot love each other selflessly, we can’t forgive, restore or live out any of these values without the power of your Holy Spirit. Help us not to be discouraged in the areas that we fall short, but lead us toward confession, repentance and then move us toward growth. May your power be made perfect in our many weaknesses. Thank you for loving us right where we are. Thank you for never letting us go. Thank you for your Holy Spirit who lives in us and gives us everything we need for life and godliness. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
